Whale Baskets

Pick a whale. Mirror their trades.

Updated yesterday

Overview

Whale Baskets¹ is part of the Stocks feature in the Crypto.com App that lets you mimic the portfolios of renowned investors. It currently features 11 notable figures — investment managers and politicians — who are recognized leaders in the space:

  • Nancy Pelosi

  • Warren Buffett

  • Jensen Huang

  • Bill Gates

  • Brad Gerstner

  • David Tepper

  • Dan Meuser

  • Bill Ackman

  • Paul Singer

  • Dan Crenshaw

  • Josh Gottheimer

Each basket comprises a selection of stocks based on the whale’s publicly disclosed investment portfolio:²

  • Investment Managers and Companies: Baskets are based on investment holdings reported in 13F filings, which are quarterly US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) disclosures required from managers with over $100 million in assets. Filings are due 45 days after the end of each calendar quarter. We also monitor insider transaction reports for the latest trades.

  • Politicians: Baskets reflect disclosures made under the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act, which requires members of Congress and certain officials to report personal securities trades over $1,000 within 45 days.

We'll update each basket’s allocation as soon as new reports are filed.

  • If a Call Option trade is reported, the underlying stock is added to the basket.

  • Put options and short trades are not included.

  • Fractional shares are not available for all equities. Only stocks and ETFs that can be traded in fractional and dollar amounts can be included in a basket.

  • If the whale sells all their holdings, we will allocate the amount in their basket to treasury bill ETFs or short-term money market ETFs.

You can decide whether or not you want to follow the updates. For more details on a basket’s allocation, see the basket’s description and the “How is the allocation determined?” section in the Crypto.com App.

Each whale’s investments reflect their unique background and approach. For example, Dan Meuser holds a diversified portfolio across industries, while Nancy Pelosi focuses more on tech stocks. This lets you choose the investor whose decisions best match your own preferences.

Like all your Stocks holdings, the assets in your basket are protected by SIPC.

Buying a basket

For stocks, you can choose to indicate either the dollar amount or number of shares you want to buy. However, when buying baskets, you must indicate the dollar amount. You can use either your USD Account or Crypto Wallet to fund the purchase.

Follow these steps to purchase a basket in the Crypto.com App:

  1. From the home screen, tap the Stocks tab > Whale Basket

  2. Explore the available baskets and tap Buy basket next to your selection

  3. Input the amount you wish to buy

  4. Select your payment method

    1. Available USD

      1. Tap Proceed

      2. Review the buy orders and tap Confirm when you’re ready.

      3. Enter your passcode to verify the transaction

    2. Crypto.com Wallet

      1. Select the token you would like to convert to USD to use for the purchase. Your purchase will then be split into two transactions: (1) sell the crypto to USD and (2) buy the basket.

      2. Tap Proceed to sell your crypto to USD

      3. Review the buy orders and tap Confirm when you’re ready.

      4. Enter your passcode to verify the transaction

You can buy a basket for as little as US$50. Crypto.com does not charge any commissions on stock or basket purchases, nor do we charge a subscription fee for baskets.

Your orders will be placed as Market orders in dollar amounts. If you are buying a basket outside market hours, your order will be queued and placed when the market opens at 9:30 am ET. See ‘Market Hours’ for more information.

You can view your baskets by going to Accounts on the bottom navigation > Stocks. To view your orders and transaction history, tap the ‘history’ icon at the top-right corner of the Stock Account screen.

Selling a basket

You can sell a basket partially or fully. You must specify either the percentage or dollar value you wish to sell. You can view the number of shares that would be sold for each stock based on their weight in your basket.

Follow these steps to sell a basket:

  1. From the bottom navigation, tap Accounts > Stocks

  2. Select the basket that you want to sell

  3. Tap Sell basket button

  4. Input the amount or percentage of the basket you wish to sell

  5. Tap Proceed

  6. Review the sell orders and tap Confirm when you’re ready

  7. Enter your passcode to verify the transaction

Please note that you cannot place a new sell order when you have other orders in progress for the same basket.

Crypto.com does not charge any commissions. However, sell orders could be subject to other fees and charges. See ‘Fees and Charges’ for more information.

Your orders will be placed as Market orders in shares. If you are selling a basket outside market hours, your order will be queued and placed when the market opens at 9:30 am ET. See ‘Market Hours’ for more information.

If you want to sell a particular stock in the basket, instead of tapping Sell basket, tap Edit and make the necessary changes. Please note that making changes will switch it to a custom basket, which means it will not be updated based on the whale’s trades. For more details, please refer to the “Editing a basket” section.

Reviewing basket updates

We track new trades from public disclosures and update the baskets’ allocation when changes occur. If you hold a basket, you’ll get notified so you can review and choose whether to follow the new trades.

To review the allocation updates, either tap the notification or follow these steps:

  1. From the bottom navigation, tap Accounts > Stocks

  2. Tap Review next to your selected basket

  3. Review the buy and/or sell orders to reflect the new trade(s). Tap Confirm if you would like to follow the trade.

  4. Enter your passcode to verify the transaction

Even if you choose not to follow the new trades, we will still notify you the next time the basket is updated.

Please note that you cannot update your basket when you have other orders in progress for the same basket.

Crypto.com does not charge any commissions. However, sell orders could be subject to other fees and charges. See ‘Fees and Charges’ for more information.

Your sell orders will be placed as Market orders in shares, and your buy orders will be placed as Market orders in dollar amounts after the sell orders are executed. If you are updating a basket outside market hours, your order will be queued and placed when the market opens at 9:30 am ET. See ‘Market Hours’ for more information.

Editing a basket

You can customize your baskets by adding or removing stocks, or by adjusting the weight of each stock. Please note that making changes will convert it to a custom basket, which means it will not be updated when the whale makes new trades.

Follow these steps to customize your basket:

  1. From the bottom navigation, tap Accounts > Stocks

  2. Tap Edit next to your selected basket

  3. Add or remove stocks and adjust their weights as you wish. Tap Next when you’re ready.

  4. If this is your first time editing the basket, you will need to rename it. Input the new name and tap Next.

  5. Review the buy and/or sell orders and tap Confirm when you’re ready.

  6. Enter your passcode to verify the transaction

Please note that you cannot edit a basket when you have other orders in progress for the same basket.

Crypto.com does not charge any commissions. However, sell orders could be subject to other fees and charges. See ‘Fees and Charges’ for more information.

Your sell orders will be placed as Market orders in shares, and your buy orders will be placed as Market orders in notionals after the sell orders are executed. If you are updating a basket outside market hours, your order will be queued and placed when the market opens at 9:30 am ET. See ‘Market Hours’ for more information.

Corporate actions

When a stock pays a cash dividend, the amount will be credited to your Stocks Cash and not your basket.

If a stock in your basket portfolio issues a stock dividend or undergoes a stock split, the changes to the stock and share quantity owned will be reflected in your basket accordingly.

Transferring stocks to another brokerage

You can own stocks either directly or as part of a basket. If you transfer shares of a stock to another broker and hold the same stock both directly and in a basket, we’ll deduct your directly held shares first before adjusting those in your baskets.

During an account transfer, you may be temporarily unable to sell, edit, or review basket allocations.
