Take-Profit and Stop-Loss (TP/SL)

Learn how to set automatic price targets to lock in gains or limit losses

What is TP/SL?

TP/SL closes your position automatically when the price reaches a level you choose.

  • Take-profit: Closes your position at a price you set in the profitable direction, locking in gains

  • Stop-loss: Closes your position at a price you set in the losing direction, limiting your loss

Take-profit is always set in the direction you expect the price to move. Stop-loss is set in the opposite direction. You can set one, both, or neither.

Why set TP/SL?

Without TP/SL, your position stays open until you act or your margin runs out. TP/SL gives you control over both outcomes, even when you're not watching.

Stop-loss protects your downside

At 3x leverage, a 5% price move is a 15% hit to your margin. If your margin runs out, your position is liquidated and there may be little left. Stop-loss closes the position earlier, at a price you chose, while margin remains.

Take-profit protects your upside

Prices reverse and funding payments accumulate over time. Take-profit locks in your gains automatically.

How do I set TP/SL?

Both prices are pre-filled with defaults on the order screen. You can accept them, enter your own, or clear them.

As you enter a price, you'll see the estimated result in both dollars and percent, so you can evaluate the impact before confirming.

How do I modify TP/SL?

You can add, change, or remove TP/SL at any time while the position is open.

  1. Go to Accounts > Perps and tap the position you want to modify

  2. Tap Modify, then Edit take profit / stop loss

  3. Adjust the price and confirm

What happens when TP/SL is reached?

The position closes automatically and in full. Partial closes are not supported.

The closure appears under Transaction History as Take Profit or Stop Loss. Remaining margin returns to your USD account balance.
