Appropriateness Assessment
What is the Appropriateness Assessment?
The “appropriateness assessment” quiz is a short test designed to assess your
experience and knowledge in purchasing crypto and understanding associated risks.
If you fail the quiz, you can take another attempt right away. However, if you fail twice in
a row, you will need to wait 24 hours before you are allowed to attempt it again.
If you want to learn more about the risks involved with trading crypto, please read our educational material at this link.
What happens if I do not pass the Appropriateness Assessment?
If you fail the quiz, you can take another attempt right away. However, if you fail twice in
a row, you will need to wait 24 hours before you are allowed to attempt it again.
After your second attempt, a 24-hour waiting period will apply before each subsequent retake. For example, you need to wait 24 hours between your second and third attempts / third and fourth attempts, etc.
Please note that you may only attempt the assessment a maximum of six times. If the assessment is not successfully completed within the six allowed attempts, your ability to trade will be temporarily suspended. This process is designed to ensure all customers understand the risks associated with trading and comply with regulatory standards.
Why do I have to retake the Appropriateness Assessment?
From 31 October 2024, all of our customers will be required to complete an Appropriateness Assessment and the Client Categorisation in the Crypto.com App and/or Crypto.com Exchange, even if they have already successfully completed one or both of these.
We have a legal and regulatory obligation to ensure that you are suitable to use our products and services and this means continuing to enhance the quizzes where we assess this appropriateness.
Will there be further changes to the Appropriateness Assessment which mean I have to retake the assessment again?
In order to continue to meet our legal and regulatory obligations, we may need to ask you further questions in the future such as instances where we introduce a new product or service. In such scenarios, we would need to first check your appropriateness to use such a product or service before offering it to you.
What happens if I do not successfully complete the Appropriateness Assessment?
Please note that you must successfully complete the Appropriateness Assessment to enjoy uninterrupted access to your Crypto.com App account.
If the assessment is not successfully completed, your ability to trade will be temporarily suspended. This process is designed to ensure all customers understand the risks associated with trading and comply with regulatory standards.

To ensure that you remain well-informed and suitable to invest, you can refresh your memory on the topics using these guides:
Client Categorisation
What is the Client Categorisation process?
If you are a new customer, your onboarding process will involve categorising yourself under the “Risk Profile” heading as either a (i) restricted investor, or (ii) high-net worth investor.
If you are an existing customer, you must also complete this step to maintain access to trading crypto.
You must reconfirm your Risk Profile status every 12 months. We will get in touch with you to request you to categorise yourself to make sure that you enjoy uninterrupted access to trading.
Please see below for descriptions of what each risk profile / investor type means.
Risk Profile: (i) Restricted Investor - You have not invested more than 10% of your net assets* in high-risk investments** in the past 12 months, nor do you intend to in the next 12 months; and (ii) High-Net Worth Investor - You have an annual income of £100,000 or more (excluding one-off pension withdrawals) or net assets* of £250,000 or more.
*Net assets do not include your home (primary residence), your pension (or any withdrawals), or rights under qualifying contracts of insurance.
**High-risk investments are peer-to-peer (P2P) loans; investment-based crowdfunding; units in a long-term asset fund; cryptoassets (such as Bitcoin); and unlisted debt and equity (such as in companies not listed on an exchange like the London Stock Exchange).
Why do I have to retake the Client Categorisation?
From 31 October 2024, all of our customers will be required to complete the Client Categorisation and an Appropriateness Assessment in the Crypto.com App and/or Crypto.com Exchange, even if they have already successfully completed one or both of these.
We have a legal and regulatory obligation to ensure that you fall into one of two investor types before providing our products and services to you. This obligation requires us to initially categorise you into one of these categories and then check that this category type is still correct at least every 12 months.
If you do not fall into one of the two investor categories, then you cannot trade crypto with us.
