How do I back up my recovery phrase?

Securing your recovery phrase is crucial, as it is the master private key to accessing your digital assets. In the event of device theft, loss, or failure, your recovery phrase is the only way to regain access to your assets.

You can back up your recovery phrase via the following options:

  1. To iCloud or Google Drive

  2. By writing it down

This article describes how you can back up your recovery phrase by writing it down. Refer to our FAQ here to learn how to back it up via iCloud or Google Drive.

Crypto.com Onchain allows you to skip the recovery phrase backup process when you first launch the app. We want to ensure you’re in a safe and private place before you note down your recovery phrase.

Once you’re in a secure location, please back up your recovery phrase immediately. Here’s how to get started:

Step 1: In the Onchain's Settings screen, tap Recovery Phrase under the Security section

Step 2: Tap By Writing Down in the pop-up window

Step 3: Enter your 6-digit passcode and 2FA code

Step 4: Read each statement carefully and tap the check mark to acknowledge it. Then, tap Reveal My Recovery Phrase when you’re ready to write it down.

Step 5: Write down your recovery phrase according to the numerical order shown and store it securely. Once you’re ready to verify that you’ve written it down in the correct order, tap Continue.

Step 6: Verify your recovery phrase by arranging the words shown according to the numerical number in the previous step. When you’re importing your wallet in the future, you’ll be required to enter the words in this exact order. Tap Continue once you’re certain that your recovery phrase is entered accurately.

Step 7: Congratulations! You have backed up your recovery phrase. Please store your note in a secure location. Remember, it’s the key to accessing your wallet and the assets stored in it when you’re importing it to a new device.

  1. Tap [Back to Home] to start managing your crypto and digital assets.

Where can I view my recovery phrase again?

  1. Go to Settings and tap Recovery Phrase under the Security section

  2. Tap View Recovery Phrase in the pop-up window

  3. Enter your passcode to view your recovery phrase and note it down if you need to

  4. Tap Done to return to the Settings screen
